Using crayons, students will draw inspiration from reference images to create an underwater scene. Starting with pencil, they will plan out different elements for their scene, then use the kneaded erasers to lighten the pencil marks. Next, they will use pressure while drawing with the crayons to create bold, colorful outlines of their drawing, then fill in the background using watercolor. The wax from the crayons will resist the watercolor, causing the lines of their drawing to pop brightly against the background. Highlights and details can be added using white paint pen to emphasize the underwater imagery.
