Ink & Charcoal Book Pages

This class explores expressive mixed media artwork using ink and charcoal on repurposed book pages. Participants will create layered compositions that combine drawing, mark-making, and tonal washes to build depth, contrast, and texture.

Working in a small 5x7" format, participants will use reference imagery as inspiration to develop their own unique artwork. Through a blend of loose ink work and charcoal drawing, they will experiment with creating mood, atmosphere, and visual storytelling on an unconventional surface.

The process encourages exploration and layering, allowing each piece to evolve over time. Final details and highlights are added to bring clarity, contrast, and a finished, polished composition.

This is a FREE class offered by Vibrant West Orange in partnership with the Winter Garden Art Association, made possible through a generous grant from United Arts. 

Allyson Bode is a quirky and imaginative mixed media artist whose work dances on the edge of the whimsical and bizarre. Her art is a playground of oddities and eccentricities, celebrating the strange and the surreal with an infectious sense of curiosity. With a background in special effects and performing arts, she has a  passion for exploring unconventional materials and techniques. Driven by a love for the creative process, Allyson delights in pushing the boundaries of traditional media. By blending textures, colors, and forms in unexpected ways, she creates captivating visual narratives and invites her viewers to journey through her imagination. In her universe, the mundane becomes magical and the peculiar is prized. Her goal is to unravel the mysteries of all that is weird and wonderful.
